So is Hoodia safe?  This is a common, logical question.  After all, a plant that kills your appetite and helps you lose weight without feeling hungry seems almost too good to be true. 

Here's the good and the bad about Hoodia safety:

Since it is a plant (versus a man-made chemical or synthetic diet pill) Hoodia is completely natural and experts do say it is safe to eat. 

As a testament to this, Hoodia is actually classified as a food in South Africa, not a drug.  Scientists have been studying it for almost 10 years and have not found any side effects.  (Not to mention the San Tribesman who have been eating Hodia for years with seemingly no ill effects).

In fact, Hoodia is probably the safest appetite suppressant available today (especially when compared to the synthetic diet pills that make you feel jittery and moody.)

There is a downside to Hoodia safety however that most websites are not pointing out to you:

First of all, not all 'Hoodia' products consist of real South African Hoodia Gordonii. (We've provided an article on this on what to look for when buying Hoodia).  This means you may end up wasting your money on a product that isn't real Hoodia.

Second of all, there is a danger to abuse even a natural product like Hoodia if the person using it has an eating disorder. Because of this, Hoodia is not recommended for those people who struggle with body image or eating disorders. 

As well, just to be on the extra safe side, pregnant or nursing mothers should also probably stay away from Hoodia.  They need to be eating a variety of high quality food to provide for their infant and themselves.

If however you are taking Hoodia and experience any strange side effects like nausea, vomiting, dizziness, chest pain, tremors, general feeling of malaise, etc. - consult your doctor right away.
